Forward-Blowing Plasma Actuation over Forebody Asymmetric Vortex
نویسندگان
چکیده
Forward blowing from a pair of plasma actuators on the leeward surface and near the apex is used to switch the asymmetric vortex pair over a cone of semi-apex angle 10 at high angles of attack. The experiments were perfomed in a 3.0 m×1.6 m open-circuit wind tunnel at Reynolds number of 5×10 and 10 based on the cone base diameter. Pressure measurements show that by appropriate design of the actuators and appropriete choice of the a.c. voltage and frequency, side forces and yawing moments of opposite signs can be obtained at high angles of attack by activating one of the plasma actuators. Further study is suggested.

Effect of plasma actuation on asymmetric vortex flow over a slender conical forebody
The active flow control technology by using plasma actuation to manipulate forebody vortices on a slender conical body is being studied based on the previous research. This work is motivated by the need to increase the experimental velocity in the wind tunnel via an effective streamlining created by the actuators. A pair of Single-Dielectric Barrier Discharge (SDBD) plasma actuators is installe...
متن کاملPIV Study of Conical Forebody Flow Control Using Plasma Actuators
Duty cycle modulation of the alternate blowing from two opposite facing plasma actuators on the leeward surface near the apex of a cone having semi-apex angle of 10° to control the mean lateral force, moment and the flow control mechanisms are presented. The pressure distributions over the cone forebody are measured using steady pressure-tappings. The flowfields are visualized by a two-dimensio...

The pressure distributions over the cone forebody are measured by steady and unsteady pressure-transducers. The experiments are performed in a 3....
متن کاملDesign of Optimal Wing–Body Configuration to Delay Onset of Vortex Asymmetry
O NE important phenomenon associated with high-angle-ofattack aerodynamics is the sudden onset of vortex asymmetry on the forebody of an air vehicle in symmetric flight. One of the first observations of the onset of vortex asymmetry was reported in 1951 by Allen and Perkins [1]. Interest in the phenomenon has been intensified since the late 1970s as concepts for highly maneuverable aircraft hav...
متن کاملInvestigations of Free-to-Roll Motions and its Active Control under Pitch-up Maneuvers
Experiments have been carried out at sub-critical Reynolds number to investigate free-to-roll motions induced by forebody and/or wings complex flow on a 30° swept back nonslender wings-slender body-model for static and dynamic (pitch-up) cases. For the dynamic (pitch-up) case it has been observed that roll amplitude decreases and lag increases with increase in pitching speed. Decrease in roll a...
